Invasive macroalgae Lophocladia lallemandii and Caulerpa racemosa (Caulerpa cylindracea) growing in a dead matte of Posidonia oceanica in Mallorca, Spain.

This image shows the negative impact of invasive macroalgae on the native seagrass species Posidonia oceanica in the Mediterranean Sea. The invasive macroalgae Lophocladia lallemandii and Caulerpa racemosa (Caulerpa cylindracea) can grow over and displace seagrass meadows, leading to a loss of biodiversity and important ecosystem functions. This photograph was taken in Mallorca, Spain and highlights the need for continued efforts to control and prevent the spread of invasive species in marine environments
